The Rise of the E-bike

The Rise of the E-bike

The rise of the e-bike continues unabated. We are now seeing a cycling revolution on Britain’s roads. Electrically assisted bikes from small lightweight fold ups that can easily fit into car boots – to huge cargo bikes capable of carrying light goods and even multiple small children are becoming commonplace.

This is not just a trend; this is a shifting of generational mindsets. The privately owned car is becoming a bit of a burden for some people who live in towns and cities, with high running costs, parking problems, congestion, car crime and more. Cycling can provide freedom from these problems as well as being great for mental health, physical health and the obvious benefits of precious quality family time.

A recent trend in towns and cities across the United Kingdom is the introduction of cleaner air zones and 20 mph speed restrictions. These initiatives can encourage more and more people to take up cycling. We are in fact seeing people of all ages taking to two wheels and ditching the car as the cleaner air now allows this.

On a safety angle, perhaps it’s time to reintroduce the cycling proficiency scheme for youngsters to learn some safety skills in this new cycling age.
